Outdoor Learning
Outdoor learning is my favorite type of learning. Not all outdoor learning has to have a goal, an objective or a structured learning opportunity. Sometimes the learning activity is just being outside in the wilderness. It is okay if you are learning by experiencing. Not all lessons have to be structured or taught by you. There is plenty for kids to learn just by being in nature and experiencing nature first hand.
You can find some of our outdoor learning experiences below. One fall we spent a couple weeks in Arizona and we really learned a lot being outside. We can not wait to go back.
Sometimes it is just nice to go for a nature walk. We are fortunate to have some fun outdoor areas in Iowa including prairies and forest areas.
A few of Iowa’s Forests
Stephans State Forest in Chariton Iowa
Yellow River State Forest in Harpers Ferry Iowa
Christiansen Forest Preserve in Huxley Iowa
Mcfarland Park in Ames Iowa
Fellowship Forest in Madison County
Shimeck State Forest in Farmington Iowa

Some of the best outdoor experiences happen right in your front yard.
Getting out and seeing wildlife not common to your area is a great way to experience and learn while outdoors.
