Do you have a mission statement for your homeschool?
What is a homeschool mission statement?
A homeschool mission statement is a short statement of why you homeschool your children with an overall goal identifying your purpose and end result.
(You can see the Wikpedia definition for a business mission statement at Wikipedia.)
Why Should You Write a Mission Statement For Your Homeschool?
I use our Homeschool Mission Statement for those times of self doubt. For those times when I consider a change in our family or daily routine. For those times when JV is resistant. For those times when I wonder if homeschooling is the best choice for our family. For those times when days become mediocre and mundane. When I worry that JV will be too sheltered, too kind and maybe an easy target for a cruel world. And at those times I remember the purpose of this choice. The Mission Statement keeps me grounded with my focus on the end goal. Our end goal is to send a young man into the world with a clear understanding of who he is and what he stands for. A young man who is rooted in his faith and stands on an unshakeable foundation that he can build his life on.
Our Homeschool Mission Statement
Homeschooling is a lifestyle that we have chosen with the goal of nurturing JV’s growth while he learns in the comfort of our home. While he is home we consciously instill our morals and values to strengthen his character and encourage him to develop his place among the world. Our end goal is to send a young man into the world with a clear understanding of who he is and what he stands for. A young man who is rooted in his faith and stands on an unshakeable foundation that he can build his life on.
We also have a family Bible Verse.
As with our mission statement, our family bible verse keeps us all grounded. It is a prayer to our Lord asking for restoration when we fail.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Psalm 51:10-12 New King James Version (NKJV) |
Homeschooling is less about lesson plans and more about bringing up children in a warm caring environment surrounded by those who love and cherish them.
